Creating the right menu for you and your family has become trickier than ever. Fast, delicious foods saturate our options, but their taste and convenience often come at the expense of our health. We’ve compiled a list of some foods you can watch out for when fashioning menus helpful to your dental health. Read on below to find out additional:
Lollipops or hard candy. Since lollipops are almost purely sugar (and a bunch of it), they help fashion bacterial acids in your mouth that can break down pearly whites. As if that weren’t bad enough, they’re hard enough to break or chip your chompers. Watch out for lollipops and other sugary, hard candies if you want to keep your dental health solid.
Potato chips. Carbohydrates feed bacteria in your oral cavity, and starch carbohydrates especially are prone to sticking to chompers. And though they might be tasty, potato chips are a starchy carbohydrate food that can hurt your pearly whites. To top it off (literally), potato chips are often coated with sugary spice blends for added flavoring.
Soda. When you drink a soda, you’re giving the bacteria in your mouth an awesome feeding source — awesome for them, but hurtful for your pearly whites. Bacteria change the sugars in food into acid, so sugary sodas can quickly become destructive for your oral health if you don’t drink them alongside water and wash out your mouth with fluoridated toothpaste habitually.
